Astronomical Tourism

This family-friendly experience offers the opportunity to observe stars, planets, nebulae, and galaxies—discovering the night sky just as the Incas once did.

Led by experienced guides and astronomers, you’ll learn to identify the main constellations and understand their influence on Andean architecture and cosmology.

The night concludes with a comforting hot drink, such as the traditional té piteado from Cusco, as you connect with the stars in the clear skies of Ocongate, at the foot of the sacred Ausangate mountain.

Day 1

Cusco – Andamayo – Yanacancha

In the morning, you will be picked up from your accommodation to begin the journey toward Ocongate.
Our first stop will be in the village of Andamayo, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy a cultural experience. The locals will share their daily life with us (you will learn how they make cheese and how the cow milking process works; we will visit the guinea pig shed and learn about their care).
After this experience, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast before continuing our journey to Yanacancha.

Once we arrive in Yanacancha, we will be welcomed with music and dances performed by the local people. We’ll have the opportunity to share in their daily agricultural and household activities.

After this cultural experience, we will head to the beautiful Singrenacocha Lagoon, surrounded by the imposing Ausangate glacier. There, we will take part in a traditional offering to Mamacocha, and we’ll also have the chance to spend time with alpacas and llamas.

Singrenacocha – Pacchanta

Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch with a view of Singrenacocha Lagoon, after having shared in the daily life of the local people.

We’ll then travel approximately two hours to reach Pacchanta, where we’ll stay in rural homes.
After such a long day full of adventures, you’ll have the option to relax in the hot springs (optional).

At night, at the scheduled time, we will have dinner, and to end the day, we’ll enjoy an astronomical observation session in this magnificent place. You’ll be able to see the dark constellations in the Milky Way—these dark shapes are clouds of interstellar dust that the Quechua people interpreted as sacred animals.

Overnight in Pacchanta.

Day 2:

Pacchanta – 7 Lagoons – Cusco

In the morning, we’ll have breakfast, then visit the Interpretation Center to learn about the process of making alpaca jerky (charqui) and the preparation of “karmu” to take with us as a snack, as we’ll begin a 4-hour hike.

During this hike, we’ll explore the 7 Lagoons of Ausangate and their breathtaking landscapes. This place is very popular due to the impressive colors of each lagoon, especially since they are located on the slopes of the Ausangate glacier.

On the way, we’ll take a break to enjoy our snack.
After this adventure, we’ll return to Pacchanta.

There, we will have lunch, and then begin the return trip to Cusco, arriving at approximately 6:00 PM.
